Clients, like their customers, appreciate getting good value. We like to believe Chicago-based General Growth Properties (GGP) got a "great buy" when it hired The Bartlett Group to provide public relations support for the expansion at Alderwood, the super-regional retail complex in Lynnwood.

GGP launched a major two-year expansion and renovation of Alderwood in 2002, a far cry from the relatively minor "facelifts" that had occurred since its opening in 1979. Alderwood is now positioned as the major northern retail hub in the greater Seattle area. It includes redeveloped retail (led by Nordstrom, which moved from its existing site to an all-new store), two new indoor/outdoor retail areas, two parking structures, a new stadium-style theater complex and a renovated interior.

Our public relations services include extensive placement efforts with print broadcast media, community relations support, media training and counsel and event planning. From 2002 to 2004 we have generated over $1 million EMV (Earned Media Value) for the client.

Our efforts are continue through the remainder of 2004, with the holiday grand unveiling of "The Village at Alderwood," accompanied by a number of exciting on-site events.

We have also been retained by GGP for another major expansion: Clackamas Town Center in the Portland metro market.


Hospitality:

Planned and implemented grand-openings, special events, community outreach programs and on-going publicity for one of the nation's top restaurant groups, resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars in earned media over a five-year period in the Seattle market and beyond.


Special Events:

Working with a major trade group, developed and executed publicity and community relations programs for major consumer shows, including the launch of a new event. Garnered extensive consumer and trade media, cementing the positive positioning of future events with exhibitors and show attendees. Resulted in explosive show growth in attendance and exhibitor participation.


Trade/Retail:

Supported launch of e-business venture with a nationwide publicity effort, resulting in over $1 million in earned media, including multi-marketed television placements, nationally-syndicated radio interviews, broad distribution via Internet outlets and major market newspapers. Supported by spokesperson training, video news release packages and intensive media contacts and follow-ups.

Over a six-year period, developed public relations programs and initiatives for a 51-store drugstore chain (oldest in US), including feature placements, guest columns, grand-opening support, crisis management and other activities. The public relations positioning has supported the company's ability to maintain and expand its market share while facing heavy competition from national chains.

Working with a national commercial real estate company, coordinated the announcement of a major renovation and expansion of Western Washington's second largest shopping center. The announcement generated extensive media coverage, including "above-the-fold" print coverage and television airtime.


Professional/Financial Services:

Successfully launched the Northwest's first stock market day trading for individuals. Our efforts generated extensive media coverage in Portland and Seattle, including the establishment of its principals as on-going news resources and remote locations during major trading days and events.

Working with a Seattle law firm, coordinated state-wide media relations and website content development in conjunction with a $30 million dollar settlement with major healthcare provider. The announcement generated "above-the-fold" print coverage and extensive television and radio airtime.

Supervised creations and implementation of award-winning public relations programs, including four Totem Award Citations of Achievement through the Public Relations Society of America. Other recognition has come through the awards program of the Washington Press Association, the MAME Awards (through the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish counties) and the national dairy industry.
